The third Summer University of Palestine will be from Saturday 1st September to Sunday 9th September this year. Once again we will be based in thebeautiful and tranquil American University of Beirut in Hamra, Beirut, Lebanon.
Past speakers at the University have included Professor Norman Finkelstein, Ronnie Kasrils former head of the armed wing of the ANC, Dr Ghada Karmi, Dr Karma Nabulsi, George Galloway, Professor Abbie Bakan, Professor Tom Hickey, Dr Abdullah Abdullah the Palestinian ambassador to Lebanon and many others.
This year we will also be organising tours of the south down to the border with occupied Palestine, to the Museum of National Resistance, to the historic Roman site at Baalbek, to the historic city of Byblos, to a Palestinian refugee camp and a walking tour of Beirut with veterans of the Lebanese civil war.
This is a unique event and a unique opportunity to learn about the Middle East, the sources of conflict and roads to a resolution.
Accommodation in Beirut at reasonably priced hotels is plentiful at this time of the year and flights are also relatively cheap if you book early. We are also investigating whether we can organise reasonably priced accommodation close to the AUB. We hope to come to a conclusion on this by the end of March.
